On July 5th, 2011, Aero Sports
Connection, Inc. the national organization that supports
ultralight and light-sport aviation, filed formal ADA
charges against the Federal Aviation Administration with the
Department of Justice.
"The FAA has attempted to unilaterally change the
definition of powered paragliders and hang gliders to
preclude the use of wheels on foot launch hang gliders
and powered paragliders. This is in opposition to all
standard practices in light aviation and will preclude
handicap use of both powered paragliders and hang
gliders. Rather than accept the inappropriate removal of
wheels from the single place ultralights and trainers,
ASC is directly challenging the FAA actions."

Note from Paul: What does this mean to you?
We believe that instructors must have the opportunity to
perform tandem flight instruction with wheels when the
student is unable to foot-launch.
Face it, foot-Launching is physically challenging for
some individuals. Not everyone is able to do a quick
walk or run. Instructors that use wheels for
instructional tandem flights are able to offer lessons
to individuals that have disabilities.

Joe
Solos!
Joe D is a professor at McPherson
College in Kansas where they prepare graduates to step into
corporate level restoration entities, become general or
museum restorers and leaders in the industry. He is 67 years
old and in great shape. It has been hot and humid this last
week and Joe never tired. His solo flight went very well and
he enjoyed it so much he said PPG was now on his "most
favorite things in the world" list. Now that he is flying a
trike he is looking forward to giving foot-launch a shot. My
bet is that Joe can do what ever he sets his mind to!

a lake treatment company, based in central Florida. Aquatic
Balance is purpose driven to provide harmony for your lake

Rick has passed the PPG1 & PPG2 tests and is ready for a
nice weather day to get that solo flight under his belt!
Kevin
B solos! Kevin
owns and operates a HVAC company. He is a big strong guy
that was able to get the PPG skills down in short order.
He got in 7 flights the first week and returned for a
second week to fly more and select equipment. Kevin
picked a MacPara Eden 4 paraglider and Fresh
Breeze Simonini. Kevin is having a blast with his new
gear and is really happy he could get an electric start
machine! Fly high and safe Kevin.

Tim
B
is learning to fly
Tim B is
a full-time student since earning his discharge from the
Army. He has returned home after serving in the Mid-East
Sand Box for a few years. We thank him for his service to
our country. Tim is easy going and very funny to be around -
he just cracks me up with his quick wit. Tim is not married
and is really having a good time on the college campus. I
bet a few of us would like to trade jobs with Tim!
Andrew
took a discovery PPG flight
Andrew
took advantage of the Discovery PPG Lesson where he spent 2
hours in a class and took a 30 minute tandem flight over
Pine Island. He got a great view and even got to fly me
around for a while in the tandem machine. Andrew is working
out his schedule to join us for the full USPPA PPG1 & PPG 2
course.

David did not waste any time - he wanted to
fly!
See photos of David and other pilots on the

Jeff W is learning to fly!
Jeff drives a big fancy tour bus for performers you might
know. Lots of big names and I bet quite a handful on the
road. Jeff lives in the Palm Bay area of Florida where he
has teamed up with the PBPD at their flight location. You
can see photos of the gang on the
July Pictures . Oh by the way, if you ever visit Jeff -
be careful - he has "killer" dogs at his house! Really I
mean it.......
Discovery
Tandem Lessons
Matthew and Brandon are big boys but that did not stop them
from enjoying a Discover PPG lesson at Pine Island Airport.
Even though each of these corn fed Americans weigh over 220
pounds the tandem flights went off with out a hitch. Matthew
and Brandon got to enjoy the view and even take the controls
and fly for a while. Life is good.
Bob's Island Adventures
has boats for rent so you can go to Cayo Costa or any of the
Lee Islands for a day of
flying a white sand beach. The family will enjoy the beach while you
fly!
