Paragliding at Torrey Pines this past Sunday, April 3, 2011.
The first photo is dedicated to Jon Kelley; it's his
favorite restaurant in California. Flying a Niviuk Ice Peak
3 size 24 meter. What a glider; it just wants to glide and
glide. These photos were taken before the hangliders took to
the air, but there was a special event for hanglider pilots
this weekend and the air was later filled with them. My head
was on a swivel as a result. They travel much faster than
paragliders and and can sneak up on you real quickly.
The highest altitude I could attain was around 600 ft. ASL,
but the lift was incredible. I was able to fly over the pier
on the south side down below 200 ft. ASL and then a dash
back to the ridge to gain altitude. I flew as far north as
permitted past the golf course where you can see the only
other Ice Peak below me. Flying started around 1:00 p.m. and
I had to leave by 5:00 p.m. to get back to LA and everyone
was still flying.
Dinner with Dominic's sister Gina and others in the Gaslamp
District of San Diego on Saturday night, but neglected to
snap a photo. My bad.
Dinner with Dominic Powall and his buddies Sunday night in
Santa Monica on the Fourth Street Prominade.
